When did sola scriptura come into effect?

Is Sola Scriptura only in effect when you have all the biblical content? Or is it in effect with just one book, say, the book of Philemon?

  1. Sola Scriptura was in effect when the Lord God spoke.

  2. You will need to give me an example.

  3. When the Lord spoke to Adam it was inspired-inerrant. All that God speaks is "God-breathed".

    1. Meyu thank's for clarifying. Yes I agree with that statement. But that does not prove your assertion. Remember sola scriptura means that only what is written carries that authority. Unless you can show that God handed Adam a book or letter, I don't think you can argue that sola scriptura was in effect. In fact your example simply would prove sola oral. I realize that oral is not a latin word lol. But I think my pont is clear.

    2. Perhaps what you fail to understand is that catholics believe the word of God is the final authority. What we don't believe is that the word of God is only inspired when written. But this is what essentially your logic says has to be. And we also don't believe that the word of God is limited to writing, or only transmitted via writing.

  4. The only thing that is different when God, the prophets, Christ and the apostles were teaching orally is that Scripture alone was not the only inspired-inerrant word of God. Today, we have only the written inspired-inerrant Scripture.

Now since you disagree that the Scripture alone is in inspired-inerrant word of God you now must show what else is. What other inspired-inerrant word of God exist in your church and what are the characteristics of it?

Which means they could not have taught or practiced sola scriptura for if they did then it would have been a denial that it was the only inspired-inerrant word of God.

So then that would mean that sola scriptura only came into effect after the time of the apostles? Or does it mean it came into effect after the believers knew what the full canon was?
